My furnace had been giving me some trouble, and I was super worried that I would have to buy a new one.
The furnace itself is not that old, but the house that I am living in is quite old.
It is hard to heat the place as it is because so much air escapes from the old house. I think I need to just go ahead and have the entire house reinsulated. I do not have the money for that right now though. I noticed that my furnace was acting up a couple weeks ago when I came home from work, and the house was really chilly. It was fifty degrees even though the thermostat was set to seventy degrees. My house would get chilly sometimes, but it never got that chilly during the previous winters, so I thought something was up. I continued to go about my business for a few more days, and the furnace seemed to keep the house warm quite well. Then, last Thursday, it was really chilly in my house again, so I called an HVAC company. They came over and checked out my furnace. They told me what was wrong and how much it would cost to fix it. When I heard their estimate of how much it would cost, I almost passed out. It was ridiculously expensive. I probably could have bought a new furnace for that price. Thankfully, my dad came over one evening and took a look at my furnace. He said that he could fix it within just a few hours if I bought the new part needed. When it was all said and done, I saved over a thousand dollars. I am so thankful that my dad knows a little about HVAC work.
